Short biography

Jelena Đorđević was born in Split. In 2015 she graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split with a dual major in Croatian Language and Literature and English Studies. In 2024 she completed the doctoral program “Croatian Philology in an Intercultural Context” at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, defending her dissertation “Linguistic and Stylistic Features of the Four Gospels in the Croatian Language” (supervisor: Dr. Zrinka Jelaska) with the grade magna cum laude, thereby earning a doctoral degree in the humanities, field of philology, branch of Croatian studies.

After graduating, she worked as part of a professional training program as a teacher of English language and literature. She was then engaged as a lecturer at the Center for Croatian Studies Abroad within the Department of Croatian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, where she taught Croatian as a second or foreign language at CEFR levels A1 to B2. She also occasionally lectured for Global LT. From the 2020/2021 academic year, she was engaged as an adjunct teaching assistant at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. In 2023, she was appointed a teaching assistant in the same department. In 2026, she was appointed Assistant Professor. She teaches courses focused on general linguistics and the standard Croatian language.

Since 2018, she has worked as a copy editor for scientific monographs and literary works and is also engaged in translation. From 2022 to the present, she has collaborated with various publishing houses as a copy editor, translator, and editor. Her research interests focus on sociolinguistic and semantic questions and on the analysis of the lexical, syntactic, and stylistic features of the Croatian language. She has participated in international scientific conferences in Croatia and abroad and continually pursues further professional development.
