Work Packages

WP3 — Communication-Media Aspects

The third work package (WP 3) focuses on digital communication and the ethics of the word, with particular emphasis on how contemporary media culture and digital technologies are reshaping the way we communicate, shape, and understand the word.

The research will examine contemporary communication patterns and the challenges associated with artificial intelligence, algorithmic decision-making, and the increasingly widespread use of automated language. In this context, the project will make its own contribution to the field of algorethics — the ethics of algorithmic communication — and promote a model of critical and responsible media literacy.

Building on the communicative power of the word as articulated by St. Jerome in his time, WP 3 examines the reach and modes of operation of the word in the contemporary digital space, as well as the tools by which the word is shaped and transmitted today. Special attention is devoted to questions of responsibility for the word in society, in public life, and in the media, as well as to the ethical challenges posed by new communication technologies.

Within this work package, the establishment of a Center for Communication and Media Research is also planned, along with the digital processing of research materials and the development of a database of texts and educational materials. In this way, WP 3 does not remain solely at the research level but also lays the foundations for a lasting educational and dissemination infrastructure.

The goal is to develop an approach that fosters a critical, responsible, and ethically grounded understanding of communication in the digital age, linking Jerome’s legacy to the challenges of contemporary media and technology.
