Short biography
He was born on January 26, 1966, in Split, to the late Nediljko (father) and the late Luca, née Skejić (mother), who resided in Srijani, Omiš municipality. In his home parish of Srijani, he received the sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation.
He attended primary school in Donji Dolac from 1972 to 1980. After completing primary school, he entered the Archdiocesan Seminary in Split, where from 1980 to 1984 he attended the classical grammar school and passed his final school-leaving examination (matura).
After secondary school, he enrolled in philosophical-theological studies at the Theology in Split, which at the time was affiliated with the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb. He completed the regular six-year program on schedule, and on June 24, 1990, he was ordained a priest incardinated into the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska. In 1992, he graduated in theology, defending a thesis titled “Factors in the Formation of Conscience” and passing his final theology examinations.
In 1992, he enrolled in the postgraduate program in Religious Pedagogy and Catechetics at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. In 1995, he obtained a licentiate (master’s degree) in Youth Pastoral Ministry and Catechetics from the Faculty of Education Sciences. The title of his master’s thesis was: L’educazione religiosa nella scuola e nella parrocchia in Croazia dopo l’avvento della democrazia (1990–1994) — “Religious Education in School and Parish in Croatia after the Advent of Democracy (1990–1994).”
